The specialists at Penn State Health Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) take a family-centered approach to care. We support children and their families through the challenges of injury, disease or disability.

Our pediatric rehabilitation team understands that children aren't just smaller adults. They need dedicated, pediatric expertise that keeps in mind children’s physical differences. We encourage kids to set goals and work toward them as they improve their strength and function.

Our experienced physicians and staff have special training in pediatric care and physical rehabilitation. Our team includes:

What to expect

Our rehabilitation team supports children and their whole family throughout the rehabilitation process. Our facilities and programs include the following features:

  • Separate, specialized 10-bed inpatient unit, including:
    • Onsite school for regular and special education
    • Pediatric gym that encourages play as part of physical rehabilitation
    • Child-sized furniture and therapeutic equipment
  • Sleeping accommodations for parents in their children's rooms or at the nearby Ronald McDonald House
  • Training program for parents and caregivers on home ventilators for pre-term newborns
