Inpatient hospitalization

Inpatient hospitalization for adults with emotional and behavioral difficulties is coordinated through the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI). Services include individual, group, milieu, and music therapies as well as psychopharmacology.

General outpatient consultations

Individual outpatients are seen through the Penn State Medical Group and Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI). We provide both counseling and psychopharmacological treatments. Through our Penn State Clinical Assessment and Rating Evaluation System (PCARES), we are using validated, evidence-based tools for individualized evaluation in a measurement-based care approach.

Partial Hospitalization Program

Programs are offered through the Penn State Medical Group and Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute.

Mood Disorders Clinic

We provide a comprehensive evaluation for diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, and pervasive depressive disorder. We use validated, evidence-based tools for evaluation and monitoring of symptoms under the principle of measurement-based care.  We customize treatment to each individual, tailoring evidence-based treatments to meet the needs of our patients and families.

Sleep Research and Treatment Center

We evaluate and manage behavioral sleep disorders. Services include polysomnography and interpretation, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia.

Eating Disorders Program

In collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics and Division of Adolescent Medicine, we provide an intensive eating disorders outpatient program and partial hospitalization program for older adolescents and adults.

Electroconvulsive Therapies (ECT)

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a procedure used to treat severe depression. It may be used for people who have delusions, hallucinations or suicidal thoughts or when other treatments such as psychotherapy and antidepressant medications have not worked. It is also used for other psychiatric and neurological conditions.
