Complete care, from pain management to surgical options
Most patients with spine problems do not require invasive surgical treatment. But for those patients that do, the Spine Center has a team of well-trained and experienced surgeons who can provide treatment for conditions that are amenable to surgical management.
From simple, routine outpatient procedures to complex spinal reconstruction, our surgeons have the tools to manage all forms of spine pathology.
Groundbreaking therapy to treat spinal tumors
We are proud to be the leading institution in the region providing the STAR™ Tumor Ablation System. Unlike other ablation methods, the STAR™ Tumor Ablation System relieves pain from cancers that spread to the spine from other areas like the breast, prostate, lung, or kidney.
Through a minimally invasive, nonsurgical approach, a probe is inserted into the spinal tumor under local anesthesia. The probe emits heat that shrinks or destroys the tumor resulting in rapid, lasting pain relief. If administered prior to any other cancer treatment, STAR™ tumor ablation may give patients enough freedom from pain to undergo uninterrupted, continuous treatment of their primary cancer.

Expert imaging for challenging cases
If you have been told elsewhere that your spine can’t be imaged, give the Penn State Spine Center a try. In addition to our standard imaging services, we also offer specialized services for our pediatric and adult patients who may need sedation for their imaging, and a non-claustrophobic MRI for those who may need more room.
